Cupping Q&A

What is cupping therapy and what are the different types of cups?

Cupping therapy is breaking blood vessels and pulling fluid to the skin. The suction causes the skin and the layers of fascia (connective tissue) to separate from each other. At Denver Sports Recovery we offer three types of cupping, including fire cupping which uses glass cups, vacuum cupping which uses plastic cups, and pod cupping which uses silicon cups.

What are the benefits of cupping?

  • Reduce muscle soreness and tightness
  • Increase circulation
  • Release toxins
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Reduce scars and stretch marks
  • Improve varicose veins
  • Aid in digestion

What are the dark marks left on the skin?

The superficial bruising left on the skin is a result of the blood being pulled into the area, the darker the mark, the more stagnant fluids i.e. toxins, blood, and lymph are being released. Bruising typically lasts anywhere from a few hours to no more than 2 weeks. The more often you receive cupping for the same issue, the lighter the marks should be. Bruising shouldn't be painful but can potentially be sensitive and tender to the touch. If you have any questions about cupping, feel free to reach out to our team at Denver Sports Recovery.
